AGC develops nonmedical repellent fabrics with "improved environmental and biological profiles&
medical products such as surgical gowns, Masks, curtains and packaging must be able to repel liquids, oil and alcohol, and quickly release stains when washed. These properties are achieved by coating nonwoven fabrics repelling agents before they are made into clothing. However, repelling agents have had a history of sustainability issues because of their potential to break the formation of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). To address this problem, AGC Chemicals Americas AG-E600 AsahiGuard developed, high performance, free of repellent PFOA * with better environmental and biological profiles.
AG-E600 repelling agents have been evaluated by industry regulators and considered safe and effective for use in Medical nonwovens. They are based on patented AGC-C6 short chain polymerization, which is non-toxic technology and is not broken down to form PFOA and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). Furthermore, AG-E600 is alkylphenol ethoxylate (APEO) and contains free acids in length longer chain (perfluorocarboxylic PFCA) or their precursors. *
